Indie developer Stirring Dragon Games has released a new 80s-style RPG for modern PCs, as well as the old 8-bit PC Commodore 64.Unknown Realm” Kickstarter campaignStarting。
Unknown Realm is a single-player fantasy RPG that aims to bring back the fun of classic 80s games like Ultima, Legacy of the Ancients, and Wasteland. The story revolves around a modern-day protagonist who one day explores an old cabin in search of clues about his missing uncle, and is transported to a fantasy world. There, the story approaches the mystery of his uncle's disappearance. In the adventure that unfolds in the open world, it seems that there are elements in which the player's choices during the work affect the story and the world in which it takes place. There are also other NPCs and mini-games, and it is said that later game-like content such as automaps, journals, and cutscenes has also been added.
A major feature of this work is that the game part was created to run on 8-bit, and a version for the old 8-bit PC "Commodor 64" is also under development. The Commodore 64 was a hobby computer developed by Commodore from 1982 to the mid-1990s. The name "64" comes from the fact that it was not 64bit, but had 64kb of main memory. This aircraft, which produced many masterpieces, still has many fans. This Commodore 64 version is said to be "the world's largest cartridge-type 8-bit RPG," and in addition to being compatible with both NTSC and PAL formats, it seems to use SID-based BGM and SE.
In addition, in the modern PC version for PC/Mac, you can use an arranged version for BGM, use a CRT-like filter option, and change the color palette to Commodore 64, NES (Famicom), MSX, etc. is now possible.
The campaign, which starts at $19 for the Modern PC version and starts at $154 for the Commodore 64 version, has already raised $62,932 of its $65,536 goal, with 22 days remaining as of this writing. The Kickstarter campaign for "Unknown Realm" is scheduled to run until January 20, 2017, Japan time.
